Electric Vehicles NewsAs the solar energy driven airplane named Solar Impulse has landed safely in Brussels after taking off from an airbase in Switzerland, everyone expects new development as far as transport technology is concerned and that doesn’t just mean air transport but land transport as well. New car models with improved solar impulse technology are probably on their way.As VW participated in the 32nd International Vienna Motor Symposium, the company has made several statements about their plans concerning environmentally friendly cars such as electric cars and hybrids. VW has not been one of the most active manufacturers as far as this issue is concerned. However, according to their statements that is about to change really soon. A new hybrid model will go into production in 2013. Most people who are passionate about green motoring news already know that there’s a tight competition between Nissan and General Motors. Since they both produce high quality models the competition was bound to be taken to another level: General Motors has recently announced that they have installed the largest solar panel in southeast Michigan at their facility where the model known as 2011 Volt is being produced. You are probably familiar with the Land Rover Defender 110 model, but what you probably do not know is that the company recently managed to convert this model to a completely, utterly electric car. The Diesel engine has been removed and replaced with an electric drive-train, which works well in off road conditions. Instead of having the battery under the floor as expected, this time the battery is housed under the car’s hood. This new model can go 63 miles per charge, which is a pretty good mileage score! This is great news to safari parks and not only! The U.S. department of energy is supporting a testing program focused on testing electric cars in Antarctica. The test is aimed at improving electric cars’ low temperature resistance. |
